Warm weather is great. It means that most of my spare time can be spent outside without the need for wearing thick, heavy clothing or crinkly waterproofs. However, warm weather is definitely not good for one particular thing, and that thing is writing.

It is deepest mid-winter; the wind is howling, the rain is lashing against the window and an early darkness is rapidly descending in the late afternoon of a gloomy Britain. The conditions outside are a world away from the long, carefree days of a hot French summer in the serene Gironde countryside.
